Their girls teams joined earlier due to differences between Wisconsin and Michigan over when girls sports seasons took place. Hurleys boys teams joined in the late 80s or early 90s. Not sure about Wisconsin now.but in the state I live in now (Florida) actually has laws on class size.studies have shown children learn better in smaller classes I believe the FL law limits class size to 18Īperson wrote:The Indianhead of the 80s included Bayfield, Butternut, Drummond, Glidden, Mellen, Mercer, Ondossagon, Solon Springs, South Shore, and Washburn. But if you rely too much on web-based courses, then you dilute the community aspect that causes people to support traditional public high schools in the first place. I suppose online classes could take care of this issue somewhat, especially going forward. Second, because when you think about it, it's harder to support a variety of classes in a public high school below 400 students. Although I would concede that in some cases, that savings might get mostly eaten up by more spending on busing. ![]() Not to turn this into a political board but here goes.įirst of all, you would save money on administration. It looks even worse on Google Earth, where you can see school district boundaries.7 mile difference between Colby and Dorchester and 4 miles between Abbotsford and DorchesterĪs for consolidate?.Why do all those fans who live in a big city think all the small towns that are close to each other should consolidate. Yes, this makes zero sense.Īlso, Vacationland has to get the award for "Most Creative Conference Name", right? I didn't think this was possible until I looked at a map. How far apart are Abby and Colby? 1 mile. So the Dorchester kids drive through Abby to go to school in Colby? That makes no sense. ![]() Unity and Dorchester would eventually consolidate Colby.so don't have a reason for the Dorchester Colby link-up.I remember hearing about Dor-Abby and some kind of rift between the 2 towns that caused Dorchester to consolidate with Colby Packerland (70s)- Sturgeon Bay, Southern Door, Algoma, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Chilton, New Holstein, Kiel, Plymouth, Sheboygan Fallsģ-c (early 50s) - Rib Lake, Medford, Dorchester, Abbotsford, Colby, Unity (not the one in Balsam Lake), Spencer, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal Vacationland (late 60s)- Nekoosa, Tri-County, Wautoma, Adams-Friendship, Westfield, New Lisbon, Royall The old Braveland Conference in the late 70s looked like this:īrookfield East, Brookfield Central, Homestead, Nicolet, Brown Deer, Menominee Falls North, Menominee Falls East, Port Washington, Cedarburg, Sussex Hamilton.Īnd I can also give you the original North Shore (1985ish), which is quite similar to today?s:Ĭedarburg, Grafton, Homestead, Germantown, Port Washington, Whitefish Bay, Nicolet, Shorewood, Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West.Īdd any others former/realigned conferences from ?back in the day.? WOW, talk about travel! This makes the distances in the Wisconsin Valley-Fox Valley merger seem like a piece of cake?La Crosse to Marinette for a conference game, sheesh! The UP football site has standings for the Big Rivers 1960-63. Apparently, they were kicked out of the Wisconsin Valley in the 50s because they were too dominant? Is this true? Anyway, I couldn?t believe who was also in the BRC back then: Wanted to start this thread after hearing that Wausau (when it was a single HS) once belonged to the Big Rivers Conference. I enjoyed all the responses to the "Defunct Wisconsin High Schools" post ? thanks.
